Bishop Kieran Conry - another prelate resigns...

The distinctly irreverent Kieran Conry, over-promoted ex-Bishop of Arundel and Brighton, and an excessively influential figure in the Catholic Bishops' Conference of England and Wales, has admitted being "unfaithful" to his vows as a priest and resigned.

Here’s his statement, to be read out at Masses in his diocese:

"I am sorry to confess that, going back some years, I have been unfaithful to my promises as a Catholic priest. I would like to reassure you that my actions were not illegal and did not involve minors.

As a result, however, I have decided to offer my resignation as bishop with immediate effect and will now take some time to consider my future.

I want to apologise first of all to the individuals hurt by my actions and then to all of those inside and outside the diocese who will be shocked, hurt and saddened to hear this. I am sorry for the shame that I have brought on the diocese and the Church and I ask for your prayers and forgiveness."

Not illegal and did not involve minors? What? Surely we can do better than that?

Actually Kieran Conry's biggest problem was his heterodox teaching. He was constantly traducing the Church's solemn and sacred teaching.

Time to wake up. Save the Church. Save the Catholic people. From now on, give us good men. Worthy men. Holy men.

When, oh when, is Rome going to give us faithful bishops?

The future of the Church in Britain many depend upon it.

In a very close match, the C of E just wins the cricket match against the touring Vatican side by a narrow whisker...

It was a very exciting, nail-biting finish and a dramatic conclusion to the Vatican cricket team's first ever international cricket tour and match against the Church of England!

In a very close match, the Vatican team scored 106 runs in 20 overs, dragging its feet a little in the middle range of overs when, this being a 20/20 match, striking out was what was needed.

However, once the Vatican side went in to bowl they did so very tellingly and kept the home side down to only a few runs in the first several overs.

The home team rallied towards the last few overs and soon began to bring the game in to a very exciting and close finish.

The Vatican side let through a few extras - wides and no balls - to give the home team an advantage that was crucial.

Then, in the very last over, with only 3 runs needed, the Church of England batsman hit an impressive 4 to win the day.

The match was a huge success, with probably more Anglican and Catholic bishops together than one sees even at official ecumenical gatherings!

The match was followed by a gala dinner in the Kent County Cricket Club's pavilion with addresses from the captains and from the Archbishop of Canterbury and all proceeds went to the Global Freedom Network which campaigns against people-trafficking and modern slavery.

Here's a report from the Guardian newspaper

Vatican and Church of England cricket match

And the Canterbury Times:

Anglicans win first inter-faith cricket match

The whole concept was the brain child of Her Majesty's Australian Ambassador to the Holy See, his Excellency Mr John McCarthy QC, well-known Sydney barrister and Catholic layman.

Her Majesty's Australian Ambassador to the Holy See, his Excellency Mr John McCarthy QC

An excellent initiative, superbly well executed. May this be the start of a regular series - perhaps like the Ashes series between England and Australia!

Right on cue: here's a fine example of the "Yes" campaign bigotry...

A "Yes" campaigner posted this comment to my last post, proving my very point:

"Whoever you are, you've understood nothing about has happened. I'm sure you think the question is closed, too. You're in for a shock."

There you have it folks!

The Scottish people may have decisively voted in favour of staying in the United Kingdom but this geezer is not going to let a mere vote of the entire people of Scotland put him off.

Oh no!

He's going to "shock" us into an independent Scotland, whether we like it or not!

How, exactly?

By the kind of intimidation tactics that were used by some of the "Yes" campaigners in the campaign?

And yet this is from a person who claims to be an Eastern Orthodox Christian, judging by his Blogs and links.

In fact, this person does not even live in Scotland but in Hastings or Eastbourne!

Nuts!

Here are some unsavoury examples of the intimidatory tactics used by some of the more extreme "Yes" campaigners.

Huffington post had this to say:

NUJ asks to cover the Referendum story free from intimidation

And here is Bruce Ogilvie, one of the leading activists for Siol nan Gaidheal ("the Seed of the Gaels"), who stated in online postings last week that “we have been following [former Scottish Secretary Jim] Murphy” for “in-your-face confrontations”:

"Yes" campaigning racist Bruce Ogilvy of "the Seed of the Gaels" represents no-one but a tiny few like himself who do not know their own Scottish history.

Notice that this fellow claims the right to wear the blue bonnet and white cockade of the Jacobites, so besmirching the good name of Jacobitism and publishing his own ignorance.

The Daily Telegraph summed it up thus:

Anti-English terrorising the No campaign in Scotland

Campaign tactics that discredit the Yes campaign

There can be no excuse for intimidatory behaviour. Is this the shape of things to come from "Yes" campaigners? One hopes not...

Message to Scottish Nationalists: The Jacobites were NOT Scottish Nationalist Socialists...

Here is the map of Scotland showing how the Scottish independence vote went - red for "No" and green for "Yes"...

I think the noes have it!

In fact, the only part of Scotland that voted yes were the cities of the worst turn-out to vote, Glasgow and Dundee.

These, coincidentally, are the parts of Scotland where one hears the most whining and whingeing and racist nonsense about the English and the most feckless twaddle spewed forth about the benefits of Socialism.

Thank goodness, not all Glasweigans and Dundonians are like that. They are let down by those who are but now it's time to call time on the bigotry, hatred and narrow-minded nationalism.

And above all to learn the basic lesson...

The Jacobites were NOT, REPEAT NOT, Scottish Nationalist Socialists!

National Socialism was tried in Germany and failed dismally as a blinkered, totalitarian, racist, violent and murderous creed.

Any sensible person should reject that kind of creed.

The Jacobites, by contrast, were the supporters of King James Stewart as king of all the Three Kingdoms of Scotland, England and Ireland and they were Crown Unionists, not whining, whingeing Nationalist Socialist Republicans, looking only for perpetual hand-outs from a centralised Socialist state.

The Jacobite programme was as follows:
  • Loyalty to the legitimate Monarch and Constitution.
  • A free people in a free state under a Stewart Monarch and the ancient Constitution of these islands.
  • Devolved parliaments under one Crown.
  • Parliaments of King, Lords and Commons or King, Barons and Lairds.
  • Christianity, the religion of the state but toleration for minority religions following the Declarations of Indulgence of King James (Stewart) II and VII of England, Scotland and Ireland.
  • Christian Social teaching to inform the laws of the state, protecting all the people, rich and poor, of whatever estate, race, creed or colour, in justice.
  • The protection of religion and public morals and both the material and spiritual welfare of the people, including the economy, trade, education, justice, employment, relief of the poor and an adequate defence force.
The Bonnie Prince was a Crown Unionist as is clear from his programme.

He always wore the Garter Star because he was not a narrow nationalist but a defender of our ancient Constitution.

See below the entry of His Royal Highness Prince Charles Edward Stewart wearing Highland dress and the Garter Star, flanked by Cameron of Lochiel and MacDonald of Clanranald:

STOP PRESS: Blessed Pope John Paul II never described the theory of evolution as "more than an hypothesis". Fact!

Remember when Pope John Paul II was supposed to have endorsed Darwinian evolution as "more than just an hypothesis"?

Remember when the media went wild over it?

Sorry, folks. He never said it!

Blessed Pope John Paul II NEVER SAID that the theory of evolution is "more than an hypothesis"

Here is what really happened - thanks to The Bellarmine Report of Robert Sungenis:

"Dear Patrons,

Being on the advisory board of The Kolbe Center for the Study of Creation has its advantages. I have been made privy to one of the most astounding pieces of information I have been privileged to receive since I returned to the Catholic Church 20 years ago. I must also say, however, that although this new information helps solidify my trust in the Holy Spirit’s guidance of the Church, at the same time it makes me realize how corrupt the Vatican apparatus has become. It turns out that the statement attributed to John Paul II about evolution in 1996 (“evolution is more than a hypothesis”) was never stated or written by John Paul II. In fact, John Paul II never even spoke to the Pontifical Academy of Science about the issue. The whole thing was the brainchild of the well-known liberal cleric, Cardinal Angelo Sodano, and his entourage of like-minded liberals. Thank God in heaven that the truth has finally been revealed.

Robert Sungenis

Here are the words of Hugh Owen, director of The Kolbe Center for the Study of Creation, on this very important development:

Dear Friends of the Kolbe Center,

I would like to share some important information that I recently received from Dr. Dominique Tassot, the publisher of the excellent French journal of the Centre D'Études et Prospectives la Science (CEP). In a recent issue of the CEP journal, a reader submitted the following testimony--from a source which Dr. Tassot considers completely trustworthy. The letter has been translated into English by Mr. Claude Eon:

On October 22, 1996, the scientific community and the popular press gave an account of the message delivered by Blessed Pope John-Paul II to the general meeting of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences gathered in Rome to discuss evolutionary theories. The main part of this message, the one little sentence that made headlines in the papers[1], is as follows:

Today (...) better knowledge leads us to see in the theory of evolution more than a hypothesis.

This sentence was immediately interpreted as approval by the Holy Father of the principle of biological evolution, in spite of the conflict between this mode of explaining creation and the very foundations of the Catholic religion. However, we now know that John-Paul II never gave this speech. He did not even meet with the members of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences because the planned meeting was canceled.

This is what really happened, according to the unpublished testimony of a priest who was present:

I was a member of this symposium on evolution. Blessed John-Paul II NEVER delivered the speech attributed to him on October 22, 1996. The text, without a signature, was handed over to the members [of the PAS] without any papal audience. After the event, I questioned Father Cottier, now a cardinal. He told me he had himself written a part of the document but that a second writer had intervened, inserting his own additions into the text without showing them to him. (It was precisely the duty of Fr. Cottier, official theologian of the Papal Household, to read all the texts to be signed by the Pope.)

Consequently, the official reviewer could not carry out his mission, He was bypassed. As to John-Paul II, the confidant of his reviewer, he never read or reviewed the text!

Thus we are confronted with a text attributed to Pope John-Paul II and published under his signature in L'Osservatore Romano--but of what real merit?[2] Yet the statement deals with a question of fundamental importance, whether man is only the product of "evolution" or if man, like all that exists on earth, is actually the fruit of a special act of God's Will (betrayed by man's rebellion through Original Sin).

This may also explain why Pope Benedict XVI thought it right to assert the Church's position in his enthronement homily at the inaugural Mass of his pontificate, on Sunday, April 24, 2005, in St Peter's Square:

We are not the accidental and senseless product of evolution. Each of us is the fruit of a God's thought. Each of us is willed, each of us is loved, each of us is necessary.

And that is not all. Here is what the Holy Father added a few months later, on November 9, 2005, after quoting from a commentary on Genesis by the fourth-century bishop St. Basil the Great:

I find that this Father's words are of astonishing relevance when he says: "Some, deceived by their inherent atheism, imagined a universe deprived of direction and order, as if ruled by chance." How many are those "some" today? Deceived by atheism, they believe that it is scientific to think that all is deprived of direction and order, as if ruled by chance. Throughout Scripture, the Lord wakes up man's languid reason and tells us: "In the beginning was the Creative Word." ("Le Cep" N° 60 July 2012, pp. 92-94).

Friends of the Kolbe Center, this letter testifies to the way that the traditional teaching of the Church can easily be subverted by anonymous activists in ecclesiastical offices who misrepresent the mind of the Pope or of the Second Vatican Council to promote ideas that are incompatible with the traditional teaching of the Church. Fidelity to the true teachings of the Church now requires the ability not only to distinguish between the authoritative and non-authoritative statements of the Pope but also to distinguish between the statements merely attributed to the Pope and those that he has actually written or said!

Let us pray that God will deliver the Holy Father from false friends, advisers, and co-workers, and give him the grace to witness boldly to "the faith once delivered to the saints" (Jude 1:3).

Please keep the Kolbe Center in your prayers.

Yours in Christ through the Immaculata,

Hugh Owen' "

[1] Editor's note: One can gauge the importance of this "little sentence" from the fact that, the very next day, October 24, the conservative daily Il Giornale proclaimed in its headline: "Pope says we may be descended from apes." For La Reppublica, the Pope had "made his peace with Darwin". The following day, Le Monde entitled an anonymous editorial: "Darwin rehabilitated by the Church."

[2] Editor’s note: One must emphasize the importance of this testimony. The little phrase is indeed, by itself, almost meaningless. But it was interpreted as going beyond the cautious stance assumed by Pius XII in Humani Generis (1950) in which he expressed serious reservations about the evolutionary "hypothesis". "More than a hypothesis" has hardly any intelligible meaning, apart from a theory. Indeed, evolution was already very well-known under the title the "theory" of evolution. Moreover, the letter in question (at least the part written by Fr Cottier) invokes many evolutionist theories, which is a way to relativize them all. A second comment must be made about the disturbing conduct of the Vatican bureaucracy, as the Vatican Secretariat of State itself, which has the duty to write and speak in the Pope's name, indulged in chipping in with a statement [in L'Osservatore Romano] which – what a coincidence –the enemies of the Church were waiting to take advantage of on the very same day. Hmmm....
